THE VAUDREUIL PARISH PULSE

April 2007

From the Rector

Holy Week is the time we walk with Jesus in the last week of his ministry – his suffering and death. Holy Week, with Easter, is the highlight of the Christian church year.

Palm Sunday is April 1st. First, we celebrate the triumphant arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem, and later we hear the story of his suffering.

Maundy Thursday is April 5th. In the evening, we gather (in St James’ Hall) for a Communion Supper (pot luck). We will remember the Passover gathering of Jesus and his disciples. Children will have a scavenger hunt. The evening will be prayerful and social.

Good Friday will be at St. Mary's this year. We gather at the Cross.

Easter morning there will be a sunrise service in St James large hall. The ancient tradition of blessing the Paschal Candle, and welcoming the new Light of Christ is followed by the first Eucharist of Easter. Our later Easter Sunday services are at the usual times (no 7:45 am service).

Confirmation! On April 15th, at 11 am at St James’. Bishop Barry Clarke will be with us. We are planning a Baptism, as well as the Confirmation of five of us. It should be a wonderful service.

As always, I am at 450-458-5372. I will visit, or bring Communion or a prayer to the shut-in, or the sick; or bless your home; or prepare you for Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage, a memorial, or simply chat! Please do call.

God bless you.

Fr John

PARISH VISIONING DAY:
Saturday, April 28th, 8:00 a.m.

To be a community living in the risen Christ;
to offer God our worship;
to grow in God's strength and grace;
and to be a channel of God's love for others

So says our Mission Statement. Is this still an accurate portrayal of our Anglican Parish of Vaudreuil? Will it serve as a basis for our decisions regarding ministries we may be called into? What are the major ministries we can identify as being carried out by our parish? What are we being asked to consider as new ministries or new directions within existing ministries? These are just some of the important questions we will be addressing at the Parish Visioning Day on Saturday, April 28th. Please prayerfully consider joining us.

Shortly everyone in the parish will be receiving a letter inviting them to be part of this important process. We start the day with breakfast served between 8 and 8:30 after which the main plenary sessions will begin. After lunch (please bring your own bagged lunch) we will split into “ministry” small groups to discuss future directions we are being called to embrace, then meet back to summarize our findings.

Please join us! We are looking for people to help with all parts of the day so please let us know if you are able to commit to be a part of this process. Just call 450-458-5897 or email us at parishvaudreuil@ca.inter.net or replyatpov@yahoo.ca. If, however, you are unable to attend, please fill out the feedback section of the above mentioned letter and make sure that you return it before the 28th. Looking forward to seeing you all there! The Parish Visioning Day Committee

FRONTIER LODGE: Christian Youth Camp
For 71 years Frontier Lodge has been doing a world of good in the lives of countless young people and their families. Over that time it has grown from a small camp sponsored by a single denomination to a camp made up of leaders and campers from many denominations and faith backgrounds. What has remained the same is the mission to teach the mind, build the body and feed the spirit.

The camp is ideally located on the shores of Lake Wallace in the Eastern Townships of Quebec.

The Staff is fully qualified, including a registered nurse and certified lifeguards. Their goal is that each camper will not only have the greatest week of their life, but a week that will change them forever!
