PARISH OF VAUDREUIL
PARISH PULSE – APRIL 2009
PARISH SEARCH COMMITTEE NEWS:
The Parish Search Committee (PSC) met for the first time on 24 March when the milestones in the search process were discussed. The immediate task before us is updating the Parish Profile for which the committee is now starting work.
On 1st April, seven committee members will meet with the Bishop to discuss the process and receive advice and guidance. Very important to the PSC is consultation with you in order to seek your valued input and desires for the Parish and a new minister.
Thus we ask you to submit names of possible candidates along with a few words in summary of what you know about them. Also we seek your thoughts on the criteria which are most important in a candidate’s profile to best suit our Parish. Please contact any of the committee members, all of whom are listed below. We look forward to working with you to ensure the future strength of our beloved Parish.

As part of the Lenten Series on March
25th Namibian Project leader Alison Bentley gave a presentation to members of
our local churches. The project had five
major goals which were identified by the mission ministry working in the
locations or slums around the town of
Firstly was to build 20 ventilation improved pit (VIP) latrines in 13 of the area’s nursery schools, next to repair or build playground equipment in a further 7 schools, thirdly the team was asked to repair some of the existing schools, next to build two further nursery schools using recycled pallets and lastly to help the current teacher shortage by sending teaching teams into the local primary school.
The Scouts Canada team of 28 youth and
leaders which went to
Recently St. James’ Church, which is the sponsor for Scouts in this area, has decided to provide ongoing support for the Namibia Project. Funds have been sent over to finance another toilet which is being built at a brand new pre-school in 5-Rand, the poorest of the locations the team worked in. Project leader Alison Bentley is in constant touch with Joan and her husband and with the Scout Troop so please speak to her if you would like any updates on how the project is progressing. Funds are also needed for more supplies, nursery school furniture, playground equipment… the list is endless.
Nursery school education is not funded by
the Namibian government and is crucial in a country where AIDS orphans make up
a large percentage of the population. In
an endeavour to move away from the institution model mission teams working in
the locations are supporting these orphans being taken in by family
members. These latter
in turn need the support of the preschool facilities. It is also hoped that by giving these
children a start in the education system that they would not otherwise be able
to have (state funded schooling does not start until age 7 in
In the wake of fundraising for the
project the team has a supply of T shirts available and has now initiated a
“T-shirts for Toilets” campaign. The
T-shirts are navy blue, made of high quality cotton with a beautiful graphic of
a giraffe and tree on the back and a small map of
If you would like to support the project in this way please call Alison at 450-458-8076 or speak to Father John. Donations may also be made through St. James’ Church or directly to Scouts Canada - Namibian Project. Thank-you for your help!
