THE VAUDREUIL PARISH PULSE
AUGUST 2006
FROM THE RECTOR
A young stag has appeared several times around the Church property. We are getting ready for the new season, planning and organizing.
Children’s Church starts September 10th at St James’, and Sunday School begins September 17th at St Mary’s.
Alex Shandling has agreed to co-ordinate the Children’s Church at St James. Heather Brierly and Kate Ilaqua will be joining the team. Welcome! With Elisa Proctor, they will be taking one Sunday a month in its leadership. It looks like a really interesting year, as we will perhaps see the Children’s Church grow! Our welcoming of children is a vital and joyful part of who we are. Children’s Church is at 11 am during the Sunday service.
At St Mary's, Sunday School is also during the service, at 9 am, in St Mary's hall. Wanda Smith continues as leader. A beautiful part of our parish life.
Harvest Thanksgiving! At St Mary’s, on the 17th of September;
at St James’, September 24th. St Mary’s will be the family service,
as we welcome back the children. The St James’ Harvest Service will
be a family Communion with the great old hymns for Harvest Festival. Bring
food for the food-bank! Bring decorations and food the Saturday before.
A special thank-you to Isobel, who anchored the Day Camp team, and to all
those who pitched in on the team. This is a wonderful joint effort by the
leadership of the Hudson area Churches. Key children’s leaders from
our Anglican, United, Roman Catholic, and Baptist churches put together a
beautiful program of a week of fun, laughter, games, song, in the discovery
and celebration of Jesus. Over fifty children attended.
Again at St James’, there continues to be a regularly staffed nursery, with several young people taking on the responsibility of looking after infants whose parents are attending church. Those involved are all qualified for this, and there is back-up with communication to the church. (It is a good idea for the infant to have a familiar blanket or toy.) Thanks to Kate Ilaqua who continues to co-ordinate and anchor this ministry. (Babies are still welcome to stay in church, and even to make all kinds of noise! Noise is family life – and that’s what we are – an alive family.)
Two September Saturday events: The Consignment Sale on the 16th at St James’ (10am to 2pm) and the Pasta Supper at St Mary’s on the 22nd (5:30pm).
As always, I am at 458-5372. I will visit, or bring Communion or a prayer to the shut-in, or the sick; or bless your home; or prepare you for Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage, a memorial, or simply chat! Please do call.
God bless you.
Fr John

ST. MARY’S PARISH HALL ROOF:
As most of you are aware, St. Mary's Parish Hall roof needs reshingling. We tendered the job and have accepted a bid for $13,636.21. The company we chose is JDL Roofing which was recommended to us by parishioners. The new shingles will have a guarantee of 25 years.
Our challenge now is to finance this necessary repair. To date, the Sewing Circle has donated $2,500. to the Roof Fund and we have received donations of $600. This makes a total of $3,100. leaving $10,536. which we must raise.
In the past, the members of Vaudreuil Parish have always been most generous in times of need. Representing the Wardens, I invite you to donate to the Hall Roof Fund. You will have the satisfaction of helping our Hall become properly weatherproofed and able to host many super Parish gatherings for years to come. And, of course, you will receive a tax receipt.
At the back of St. Mary's there is a small presentation of the Hall which will keep you up to date with our campaign.
If you have questions, please call me. Elizabeth McCrudden, Rector's Warden, St. Mary's Church.
THE GARDEN PARTY
Lady Sausage and Rev. Wine
Go out on Sunday all the time
He talks a lot ‘bout Cain and Abel
And serves Communion at the table
He really gives it all he’s got
Salvation he has surely bought.
They mark the Sundays of the year
Most all are fine, but ONE they fear
Needs Prayer a lot
With all they’ve Got.
But the Man above just doesn’t Hear.
These two ask not to rise like yeast
For after all he is a priest
They simply want a day that’s fine
With gentle breezes, quite benign.
But sadly this is not to be
As guests descend on Rectory
The lovely garden is all wet
The sausage luncheon quite upset
The Volunteers go into huddles
Deciding what to do with puddles.
There’s nothing for it all they say,
The Man above must have His way.
And in a flash the chairs and dishes
Are moved inside, against their wishes.
The Congregation rushes in
For sausage and a bit of Sin
The heady wine flows down each throat
And pretty soon most are afloat
And right away each loves his neighbour
It seems no longer such a labour
To Love the enemy that you Hate
With Gobs of ice cream on your plate!
This lunch is really a Sensation
Deserving of a huge ovation
And so I come to this conclusion
That though the rain creates confusion
A Garden party in the Hall
Isn’t bad at all!!!
This is just my little way
Of thanking you both
For a splendid day.
Love Ruth Lewis, August 2006

PRE-AUTHORIZED REMITTANCE (PAR) COMES TO OUR PARISH
In response to interest shown by both congregations, St. Mary’s
and St. James’ Churches are now ready to offer direct debit services
to parishioners as an alternative to using the weekly envelopes. The service
permits regular, consistent contributions by letting the banks do the transferal
of funds from your bank account to that of your church.
How Does PAR work?
Once you have agreed to contribute through PAR, your bank account is automatically
debited on the 20th of each month and either St. Mary’s or St. James’
bank account credited with your contribution. You therefore no longer need
to bring envelopes every week, although you may use them for special or other
donations you wish to make.
How Do I Join?
If you would like to participate then you:
1. Decide the amount of your monthly offering
2. Pick up an authorization form from the office, back of the church or download
it from our Parish website www.parishofvaudreuil.com
3. Fill in the authorization form and place it in an envelope along with a
blank cheque marked “Void”
4. Place the envelope in the offering plate, hand it in at the office or to
the envelope secretary
You will be informed when the first PAR payment will be deducted from your account.
What Are the Advantages of PAR?
To You:
1. The ability to offer regular support of St. James’ or St. Mary’s
in the amount you choose
2. Support of your church while you are out of town, thus avoiding “catch
up” periods
To St. James’ or St. Mary’s:
1. Reduction in bank charges
2. Regular, dependable flow of contributions
3. Reduction of paperwork and bookkeeping
Some Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: May I designate my monthly PAR to go to items other than
parish expenses?
A: Just designate these items on the authorization form
Q: How do I make a special or one-time donation?
A: Just use the regular envelopes.
Q: Is the debit always processed on the 20th of the month?
A: Yes, except when the 20th falls on a Sunday or a holiday in which case
it is processed the next business day
Q: What if I decide to change the amount of my contribution?
A: Just notify the Envelope Secretary in writing or e-mail prior to the 10th
of the month or fill in a new authorization form
Q: What is the cost to administer PAR?
A: The fee is 50¢ per contributor per month to a maximum of $45
Q: Do I still get a tax receipt
A: Certainly; giving in the plate and giving by PAR are treated identically
for tax purposes
Q: What do I do if I feel uncomfortable not putting something
in the plate?
A: Just use your regular envelope and mark it PAR
