THE VAUDREUIL PARISH PULSE

February 27 th , 2004 (2004-2)

MESSAGE FROM THE EDITORIAL TEAM:

The Parish Pulse is to be everyone's newsletter. We are, therefore, asking for input such as upcoming events, announcements or status reports from all church groups. Sunday Schools , Chancel Guilds, Choir, St. James' Church Women, St. Mary's Sewing Circle, Wardens, Treasurers, Committee Chairs, and Parishioners are all invited to contribute on a regular basis. We hope that you will use the Parish Pulse to enhance your communications and raise awareness with our fellow parishioners.

Over the next few months, we hope to profile the groups, committees and people who contribute to the successful operations of this parish. Let's find out who does what, how they do it, and what one needs to do in order to participate in any group or activity.

The Parish Pulse Editorial Team is actively looking for your articles, so feel free to contact any of them. (Patti Ann Gannon, 613-674-1376, pattiann@sympatico.ca ; Paul Brierley, 450-458-1750, paul.brierley@future.ca ; Wilf Hall, 450-458-7913, wghall@sympatico.ca )

The Editorial Team takes this opportunity to thank everyone for their positive enthusiastic reception to our first issue. Comments like, “Many Thanks….very much enjoyed the first one,” “Good luck with your communications endeavors,” “Well done good and faithful servants,” “I liked it very much,” “Congratulations on your first issue and best wishes for your future issues,” are most appreciated. You are most welcome.

ST. JAMES' CHURCH WOMEN:

The St. James' Church Women are pleased to contribute to the new Vaudreuil Parish Pulse newsletter.

Our Annual General Meeting was held on 22 January, 2004 . President Susan Houghten reported on the Church Women's activities for 2003. This report will be included in the Vestry report, and as you will see, the Ladies had a very full year.

Later, the proposed Slate of Officers was presented, and approved unanimously. Margaret Neal is now President of St. James' Church Women, with Isobel Wright as Vice President. We are delighted to have Josephine Boland as our new Treasurer, and welcome Sharon Davidson to the Executive as Foster Child Contact. Linda Cobbett has taken responsibility for a new position on the Executive, in charge of Telephone Committee. We were sorry to lose Jean Glew, Christine Cooper and Shirley Dickenson as members of the Executive. Thank you, ladies, for all your efforts.

At this point, the meeting was turned over to the new President, Margaret Neal. After the meeting, a representative from Samaritan's Purse, the organization that delivers Shoe Box gifts all over the world, spoke about the work of the organization. Refreshments were served.

Gay Campbell has once again agreed to convene the Homes Tour, and has everything well in hand, as always! Some homes have already been confirmed. The Homes Tour is a huge undertaking, requiring the efforts of many people in Hudson and the surrounding area. Keep Thursday, June 3 rd free – we will need your help!

MEMORIAL FLOWERS:

A wonderful way to remember your loved ones is to have flowers put on the altar in their memory. One of the duties of the Chancel Guild is to see that there are always fresh flowers on the altar and a great deal of loving care is taken with the arranging.

The St. James Guild relies heavily on the donations received for memorial flowers as this is virtually the Guild's only source of income. Donations are particularly welcome during the winter when the flowers are at their most expensive. In summer, garden flowers are plentiful – parishioners are generous and there are a wonderful variety of blooms. A donation at this time allows the Guild to set a little aside for bleaker times.

According to tradition there are no flowers placed at the altar during Lent. If you would like a memorial to loved ones during Lent a candle will be placed at the altar and lit during the Sunday service. For Remembrance Day red roses are placed on the altar in memory of those who lost their lives during the world wars.

There is a flower chart at the entrance to the church and a fresh chart for 2004 is in place. Please sign up early to get the Sunday of your choice.

Please call Jinny Black at 458-5869 for memorial flowers at St. James, or Bernice Hall at 458-7913 for memorial flowers at St. Mary's.

 JANUARY AT ST. MARY 'S:

The first Advisory Board meeting of 2004 was held on January 22 nd and the 2004 Vestry meeting and Pot Luck Supper was held on January 28 th . Financial results for 2003 were excellent as our income was almost $4000 more than our expenses. This means that we did better than budget by almost $8000. Great job by all those of our congregation who helped to make the year a financial success. Thanks to Frank Royle for loaning his computer to the treasurer, who's computer crashed two weeks before, which enabled closing the books in time for Vestry. St. Mary's Sewing Circle ladies met for their Annual General Meeting as did the Chancel Guild.

RESPONSE TO LAST MONTH'S “A TRIBUTE TO BILL FOX”:

“Thank you for the wonderful tribute. I hardly knew myself! I will treasure those words all my days. In turn I have to say that working in the parish enriched my own spiritual life immensely. It was a journey filled with challenges and people who helped me to meet those challenges in a Christian way. I am forever grateful to you all.

The newsletter is a splendid idea. Keep it up. Best regards to absolutely everyone.

Bill (Fox).”

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER:

The World Day of Prayer Service this year will take place on Friday, March 5 th at Wyman Memorial United Church at 2:00 p.m. The guest speaker will be Reverend Marsha Mundy from Evergreen Anglican Christian Community. The women of Panama wrote the service, and the theme is “In Faith Women Shape the Future.”

PARISH FAMILY:

Reverend Canon John Bradley's mother passed away on February 19 th , 2004 . The Parish offers to John and his family support, sympathy, and prayers for continued healing.

A letter from Barbados dated February 16 th , 2004 :

“Hello from Barbados , Ian Petrie here. I have some sad news to pass on. Tee Petrie died in her sleep early Sunday morning in her own bed here in Barbados . She loved spending winters here for more than 15 years. She had spent a wonderful 4 months here with different members of her own and extended families with her all the time…She had accepted that the lymphoma cancer she'd had for 7 years was getting the better of her, but she was a real fighter to the end….She had many wonderful friends, and other than the last few years enjoyed good health. I gave her a big hug from everyone who loved her.”

Tee, a long time member of St. Mary's, was instrumental in many things like the Hall Rebuilding Committee, creation of the Memorial Wall and Grounds, a Warden, member of the Sewing Circle and on and on. A Memorial Service has been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on February 28 th , 2004 at St. Mary's Church.
