THE VAUDREUIL PARISH PULSE

February 28th, 2005 (2005-01)

From the Rector
Our parish has a new website! (parishofvaudreuil.com) It was a Christmas present from the Communications Committee - one of several projects they pioneered. The webmaster is Simon Robinson. (See the article by Wilf Hall.) Our Parish Pulse issues for all of last year are posted on the website for easy reference.

A second gathering of young families “Lent, Love and Lasagne” attracted about forty to enjoy an evening at St Mary’s Hall. (The first one, a while ago, was called “Chicken and Chips”.) Congratulations to the Pastoral Committee.

St James Church had its Annual Vestry Meeting a few days ago. We had supper, thanks to the efforts of Donalda McLeod and the workers in the kitchen, who had just catered several large events in the same week!

Congratulations to Alison Bentley on being elected the new St James’ People’s Warden. Congratulation also to Joy Forster for taking on presidency of St . James’ Chancel Guild.

A big Thank You to Sal Ilaqua for his dedication as St James Warden. His energy has made a difference. St James’ Sunday School continues, small, but vital. Thanks to Isobel, Hugh, (and to Margaret for stepping in when needed).

We have good news. Over the last year a growing deficit at St James has been turned around. People responded to the appeal, and the income and expenses balanced with the help of investment interest. If givings keep up, a crisis has been prevented. St Mary’s also responded to the appeal, and ended the year well. Congratulations to the Combined Corporation who worked on this together.

Our social events are without equal in our diocese. In 2004, we had the enormous Ceilidh with the Cape Breton Fiddlers; a full house for Mark Tewkesbury at “Eggs Benediction”; a magnificent Country Homes Tour; a Lobster Supper; a well attended Strawberry Social; over 100 at the Rector's Garden Party, and many other events! Summer Day Camp for the children thrived again last summer.

Call me! (458-5372); email me ( jbradley@parishofvaudreuil.com ) and let me know what I can do for you or someone you know.

Our Parish Web-site didn't have much of a grand opening; I'm not sure if there is a service available in the BAS for launching web-sites. Maybe Father John could invent one but I'm pretty sure it would be a first. Anyway, our Parish web-site is definitely there for all the world to see. It's there because the Communications Committee had the idea, and because Simon Robinson cared enough for his Parish Churches to get involved and use his skills from his computer science course to build us a Web-site.

When we asked if he could help us there was no hesitation and he found time between his studies, exams, and his volunteer work (he's a volunteer fireman and emergency crew member) to jump right in and create one for the Parish.

Our thanks go to him for this gift. Log on and take a look. Let him know how much you appreciate his efforts. He's a great asset to our Parish, don't let his efforts go unnoticed.
