THE VAUDREUIL PARISH PULSE
JANUARY 2007 (2007-01)
From the Rector
Happy New Year! It was a splendid December, with enthusiastic well-attended services that did indeed make the season bright. The Carol Shout filled St Mary’s Hall with bells, laughter and fun. The Lessons and Carols was splendid, and inspiring. The Pageant was engaging, and full of life. The morning services were well-attended by people from the whole parish. The Holy Night Communion (from which “Christmas” gets its name) was heart-warming.
The Parish (combined) Corporation has named Laverne John as the new chair of the Parish Pastoral Committee, with the enthusiastic support of the members of the committee. We thank Ann Cruickshank for forming and chairing this committee. They have established a tradition of young family suppers (which always have a completely different name) and have responded to pastoral needs of the parish.
Annual Vestry Meetings are planned - St Mary’s on Tuesday January 30th (6pm dinner, 8pm mtg.), and St James’ on Sunday the 28th (lunch after 11am service, 1pm mtg.) These meetings are open to all adults who regularly attended services in 2006. Within the Canons (church laws), the decisions of these meetings form our priorities and direct our activities for the next year.
As always, I am at 458-5372. I will visit, or bring Communion or a prayer to the shut-in, or the sick; or bless your new home (a good time for a party!); or prepare you for Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage, a memorial, or simply chat! Please do call.
God bless you.
Fr John
DID YOU KNOW:
That Anglicans are making a difference in International Development, helping
with refugees world wide, contributing each time there is a world disaster,
helping out in third world countries, and actively involved in working for
justice? We have our own funds, administered by the National Anglican church,
and called THE PRIMATES WORLD RELIEF AND DEVELOPMENT FUND, or PWRDF for short.
It is not a mystery, just not much publicized in this parish! Look up their
website, because it is OUR website too. You will be amazed at the number of
projects we are all supporting through this fund. Check out pwrdf.org and
the stunning poster on the board at St James!

If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it.
If God had a wallet, your photo would be in it.
He sends you flowers every spring and a surprise every morning.
When you want to talk, He'll listen.
He could live anywhere in the universe ...
and he chose your heart.
And that Christmas gift He sent you in Bethlehem?
Face it friend, He's crazy about YOU!

GREAT NEWS AND NOT SO GREAT FOR ST. JAMES’……
First the great news!
As many of you will have noticed, we have a new sound system in the church, upgrading the old system, which has served us very well for a number of years. Technology has progressed and the St. James Corporation asked Peter Mundy, through Alan MacLeod, to propose and install a modern integrated system upgrade which would give us better sound definition, more points of input and greater flexibility. Peter is an expert in the field and has installed many other systems including the one in Wyman church.
The updated system includes 3 new directional microphones; two large concert quality speakers, which have the capacity to broadcast to the whole of Hudson if we were to turn up the volume!; a second amplifier, and two small speakers for the choir.
The Corporation hopes you will agree that there is a real improvement in sound quality and that those whose hearing is less than optimal will be better able to participate in the worship. Certainly reports from the congregation are very positive.
The great news is that, following an appeal to the congregation just before Christmas, the full cost of the new system has been more than covered by extremely generous donation. Love for our church is alive and well! A very big ‘thank you!’ to those generous few. On your behalf I would like also to express thanks to Peter Mundy for his expertise and generous help, and to both he and Alan MacLeod for the time they have spent on this important project.
Now the ‘not so great’ news.
Some time between the night of Tuesday 19th. Dec and the Christmas Eve10:30pm service at St. James’, the keyboard disappeared from the church. Everyone who just might have borrowed it has been contacted, but we now have to conclude that it was stolen. The police have been informed but there is little likelihood of the keyboard being recovered, and insurance probably cannot help because we have a deductible. Quite apart from the dollar value, this was a gift to the church from the Royle family in memory of Canon Cecil Royle. It is a sad reflection upon society of today that someone would steal from a church.
We are appealing to anyone who might have any information, or perhaps who saw something unusual between the dates mentioned, to let a member of the Corporation know, or tell the Parish Secretary, Barbara Dodds (450 458-5897).
