PARISH PULSE – MARCH 2009

ANNOUNCING A SPECIAL VESTRY for the

PARISHIONERS OF

St. JAMES AND St. MARY'S CHURCHES

Sunday, March 8, 2009

1:00 pm

At St. James Church, following the regular service at St. James

Dear Friends,

As you all know Father John Bradley has, reluctantly, decided it is time for retirement, which will begin officially after May 31 this year. He will have a month’s holiday in May, which means that his last services will actually be on April 26. We shall, of course, be planning a wonderful farewell for both him and Karen, but that is for another letter!

At this time we are beginning the process of finding someone to lead us over the coming years, a task that is extremely important requiring dedicated volunteers whose love for the church is a priority in their lives. This is a process that is conducted cooperatively and jointly by both churches. As the Joint Corporation, we have met with the Archdeacon and determined that the first step in this process, the establishment of a Selection (Search) Committee, shall occur on March 8 at St. James. Archdeacon Lorne Tardy will chair this Special Vestry meeting, the sole purpose of which is to elect members to the Selection Committee.

We have decided that the committee will include: two wardens from each of the two churches (Marcus Owen, Sue Campbell, Alan Constable, and Joan Marshall), an ex officio youth representative, and four elected members being two from each church. It is important that everyone consider whether they would be willing to serve on the committee, and who they might like to see on the committee. The nominations are open, from the floor, and elections will be by secret ballot, separately for each church. Consideration should be given to the commitment to be available for almost weekly meetings throughout the period of the search, which can take from three to eight months. More information will be provided by the Archdeacon at the meeting.

We hope as many people as possible will participate in this important process by attending the Special Vestry meeting on March 8. We are asking that you bring sandwiches or light cakes or cookies as a contribution to an informal pot luck luncheon that will begin at 12:30 pm.

In prayer and with our love,

The Wardens,

Joan Marshall,   Rector’s Warden  (St. Mary’s)

Marcus Owen,   Rector’s Warden  (St. James)

Alan Constable, People’s Warden  (St. Mary’s)

Sue Campbell,   People’s Warden  (St. James)

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER:                                                                     Friday 6 March at St. Thomas 1:00 pm

World Day of Prayer is a worldwide movement of Christian women of many traditions who come together to observe a common day of prayer each year.  It is a movement initiated and carried out by women in more than 170 countries and regions.  It is symbolized by an annual day of celebration, the first Friday in March, to which all people are welcome.  It is a movement which brings together women of various races, cultures and traditions in closer fellowship, understanding and action throughout the year.  It is a time for women to affirm their faith in Jesus Christ and share their hopes and fear, their joys and sorrows, their opportunities and needs. This year the program was written by women of Papua, New Guinea. Refreshments will be served following the service in which all local churches are participating..

VESTRY MINUTES:

The minutes from the vestry meetings of both churches are available from the parish office or from the parish website.  Parishofvaudreuil.com

YOUTH FORUM

Unfortunately it was not possible to organize the forum during the month of February due to the lack of a volunteer to organize and steer the process.  It is very much hoped that we will be able to hold the meeting in the coming months since it is felt critical that we get the parents of young people involved in the youth programs.

If you or someone you know has the time and interest to facilitate the forum and the follow – up process please contact one of the wardens, Fr. John, Kelly (514-445-6386) or the office.

YOUTH WINTER RETREAT!                                                                                            Weekend of March 20th

The Retreat is for ages 11+, and will consist of a three day, two night excursion to Tamaracouta. Youth of the Parish are encouraged to attend, and also may bring as many friends as they would like!

Plans for this retreat are still in the works and at this point I am looking for volunteers who might be interested in leading various workshops on Saturday the 21st of March in the afternoon. If you are interested in helping or know of someone who would be, please contact Kelly at 514-445-6386.
