ST. JAMES STEEPLE AND FACADE RESTORATION PROJECT
PHASE 1 ABOUT TO COMMENCE:
As briefed at the Vestry meeting in February, the restoration project on the
steeple and front facade is about to commence. The St. James Board of Directors
have received a contract for the work to proceed from Conseil du patrimoine
religieux du Quebec, along with the grant to assist in the financing of the
project.
Phase one will see the complete restoration of the stone on the front face of
the church and the entire steeple. Included also will be repairs to the window
and louvered openings in the tower.
The contractor awarded the work has advised he may start the work as early as
this Thursday, May 1st. Contractors have revised planned schedules in the past
so we will only know for sure when the work actually commences . Watch for scaffolding
and other construction equipment around the front of the building. All work
will be exterior only and should not disrupt our Sunday service schedules. Phase
II will commence at a future date and that work will encompass the remainder
of the stone on the church along with maintenance work on the stained windows.
