CANDLELIGHT CAROL SERVICE AT ST JAMES'
In the tradition of Kings' College Cambridge, the Candlelight Service of Nine Lessons and Carols will be held at St. James' Church on Sunday December 18th at 8:00 PM. Presented by St. James' Church Choir, its director Douglas Knight and our Parish Readers, the Lessons and Carols relate in music and traditional Biblical stories the events leading from Advent through the birth of Christ on Christmas Day to the coming of the Three Kings. The Service has become a perennial favorite and imbues a special feeling for the true meaning of Christmas. And after the Service all are welcome to stay for wine, coffee and goodies served by our Choir Members.

146TH SYNOD:
Montreal Diocese 146th Synod in October had four main components: the Bishop's charge, a session on strategic planning, a review of finances and business issues, and a lively youth presentation. It is impossible to do justice to a day and a half of discussions in just a few lines, and a good summary has been published in the Anglican Journal. The full proceedings can also be seen on the diocesan web site www.podm.net.
To whet your appetite let me just mention the strategic planning process, which involved two two-day workshops, four task forces and other discussions around the diocese, and has been going on for nine months under the guidance of a professor from Queen's business school. Under the heading Choosing our Future...a Vision for 2010, the diocesan council has now adopted a vision statement (see below). You will see that this is really a view of what we will work towards in 2010. Now parishes are being asked for more input on building greater clarity around the key strategies, objectives and choices.
The Vision reads: The Anglican Diocese of Montreal, called to be a ministry faithful to God's action in Jesus through the Holy Spirit, true to the Gospel and spiritually alive in prayer, worship and service, is reaching out in evangelism and mission and is growing in ministry, energy and numbers.
We are all encouraged to give our input by emailing bishops.office@montreal.anglican.ca. I shall be delighted to email my two page report to anyone who requests it: corsley@videotron.ca
Mark Drake, St James' delegate to synod.

THE GREENWOOD SINGERS' CHRISTMAS CONCERT AT ST MARY'S CHURCH
The Greenwood Singers will be presenting Carols for a Mid-Winter's Night at St. Mary's Church on Wednesday, December 7th. Carols for a Mid-Winter Night comprises a wide variety of sacred music particular to the Christmas Season, along with a couple of opportunities for guests to sing out their favorites as well.
Since their Christmas concert last December at St. Mary's Church, the Greenwood Singers have performed their Summer Concert at St. Mary's Church, a full evening's concert at Village Theatre and were one of the entertainment groups at a Gala Fund Raiser for Village Theatre held at John Abbott Theatre this past September. The Greenwood Singers who make quite extraordinary music, are Sopranos: Rosemary Angier, Dorothy Crofts, Dolores Meade, June Parry, Lynn Poirier and Muriel Webster; Altos: Carol Cowell, Marguerite King and Glenna Vipond; Tenors: Graham Campbell and Bob Cowell; Basses: John de Sévigné and Frank Royle.
Concert attendees are invited to Greenwood at 6:30 PM for coffee and dessert before the concert (tickets $15.00) or to St Mary's Parish Hall for wine and cheese following the concert (tickets $20.00). The concert starts at St. Mary's Church at 7:30 PM
Net proceeds from the evening will be shared between Greenwood and St. Mary's Church. Tickets are available at Mays' Studio or may be reserved by telephoning Greenwood at 458-5396 or by e-mailing them at greenwood@hudson.net
