PARISH OF VAUDREUIL ACTION PLAN
As a result of the Parish Visioning Day and subsequent discussions, the following ministries and action priorities for our Christian Community were identified:
MINISTRIES
PRIORITIES
KEY MINISTRY ACTIONS
Worship
1. The formation of a liturgy taskforce, particularly for St-James, although
the subject of services offered in general could be addressed. This taskforce
would then report directly to the Corporations with their recommendations. The
new Youth Coordinator should be part of this taskforce.
2. Communication with the new music director regarding a variety of styles,
instruments, and the possible inclusion of young people.
3. A follow-up program to retain parents and couples after baptisms, weddings
etc.
Pastoral
1. Encouragement to continue the programs already in place and to communicate
that these programs exist to the general parish body
2. Diligence in making sure all relevant information is communicated by whichever
means is appropriate
3. Identifying special needs and, as appropriate, making people aware of the
Rector’s discretionary fund
4. Preparing a list of medical/governmental resources for distribution to parishioners
Fellowship
1. Every effort should be made to encourage and promote joint activities between
the two churches.
2. The possibility of a “Listening” skills workshop could be investigated.
Mission and Outreach
1. A report of all our Mission and Outreach activities should be prepared and
circulated – this would involve input from several committees.
2. The possibility of St. James’ hosting the Moms and Tots program on
a second weekday should be addressed (in Pulse) and volunteers sought.
3. The prison ministry idea should be investigated and knowledgeable persons
asked for advice. Possibly invite someone already involved in this ministry
to address the congregations.
Youth/Christian Education
1. We should be offering more courses for all age groups
2. Ideally a Christian Education group could be formed to investigate possible
courses we could run; - e.g. Alpha.
3. An evening course/Bible Study has already been identified as a need and should
be in place for the new year
4. Bible study content can be communicated during the previous Sunday’s
announcements and all be made to feel welcome.
5. The new Youth Coordinator should have a youth program well underway and visible
by the fall of 2008
6. The Sunday school should be following a set curriculum with strong Christian
content. This will guarantee consistency and enable substitutions if necessary.
Communication
1. All of the ministries require consistent and effective communication. We will therefore keep an ongoing focus on the effectiveness of our communications processes.
BLESSING OF TREES:
After the morning service on Sunday, 28 October, a ceremony of dedication was held to bless the trees recently planted in memory of loved ones. Those remembered were:
Robert Currie Gilmore Douglas, Pamela, Frances and Peter Owen
Lawrence (Larry) Horne Ronald Power
Hilda and Robert Johnston Olive Withington
The short service of dedication was conducted by Fr John, with most of the morning’s
congregation present. We were blessed by good weather and the occasion will,
no doubt, ever rekindle fond memories for those who graciously donated the funds
for these memorial trees.
PARISH FAMILY (Milestones of recent weeks)
BAPTISMS: Zoe Fuju Proctor daughter of Elisa and Jarrod and sister of Thomas was baptized at St. James on September 30th.

TEDDIES FOR TRAGEDIES
I have about 20 teddies and would love to have more to send to Toronto where
they will be sent to troubled spots through out the world. Now that the weather
is getting cold and the days drawing in, please think of the sick and frightened
children to whom these teddies will be given, and make a few. To learn more
about the programme go to
www.teddiesfortragedies.org or call me, Liz McCrudden at 450 458-5442.
MONTREAL MALE WELSH CHOIR: Saturday November 24th – 7:30

The Choir will be presenting “Memories 0f Christmas” at Wyman Church.

TAX-EFFECTIVE DONATION OPPORTUNITY - limited time!
The Canadian and Quebec tax treatment of the donation of stocks to registered charities means that this form of planned giving is potentially applicable to many individuals. Usually, we have a long time to consider major gifts to charitable organizations including our churches; however there will be a unique situation in the very near future.
Later this year the stocks of two widely held Canadian companies will be withdrawn from public trading. Current shareholders will be required to submit their shares for purchase and they may be subject to tax on any capital gain. There is a short-term opportunity to make a donation and reduce the tax associated with the forced sales selling of Alcan or BCE shares.
There may be members of our parish who hold these securities and would consider
making a special donation to their respective church or the parish. This is
a great opportunity. Both St. Mary’s and St. James’ church can help
in selling the donated shares. The process is simple and quite quick. There
are, however, specific rules that must be followed to ensure the gift is tax
deductible. The diocese is also making help available to any parish that needs
assistance.
If you hold shares in either of these companies and want to consider making
a charitable donation, you should first consult with your financial advisor.
After getting their advice, if you wish to proceed to support your church with
a donation of shares, please contact one of the following people:
St. Mary’s
Elizabeth McCrudden Rector’s Warden
George Henry Dempsey People’s Warden
Alistair Smith Finance Committee
Michael Lawrence Finance Committee
St. James’
Graham Campbell Rector’s Warden,
Alison Bentley People’s Warden,
Frank Royle Finance Committee
David Cobbett Finance Committee
