ST. MARY’S SEWING CIRCLE
The St. Mary’s Sewing Circle comprises at present of nineteen ladies. We meet once a month in the afternoon to review recent church events and plan future fundraisers, etc. After the formal meeting, we enjoy a tea prepared by two obliging volunteers from our membership. It is a super chance for informal discussion and to get caught up with everyone’s news. We are an ‘older’ group with members ranging in age from fifties to nineties. As one of the younger and newer members, I enjoy hearing stories about the history of St. Mary’s and its parishioners.
Our main events during the year are:
Organizing the Vestry Pot Luck Supper; and the Pancake Supper; Holding a Bake Sale in the spring; Serving breakfast, lunch and tea for the parish house & garden tour; Organizing a Spaghetti Supper in the early fall; Holding a Christmas sale in November or December; Catering receptions at the Hall after memorial services for Parish members.
Occasionally we raise funds for St. Mary’s by holding a tour of gardens in the Como area and serving a lunch. Last summer we sold spring bulbs for fall planting in conjunction with Vesey’s nursery in P.E.I. They generously allowed us to keep half of all the money paid for their bulbs as well as sending us 75 red tulips which we are eagerly awaiting the spring to enjoy.
We contribute almost 10% of the budgeted annual income for St. Mary’s church. Annually, we take turns with other local churches in hosting the Hudson Community World Day of Prayer. Worshipers from Evergreen Christian Community, Hudson Community Baptist Church, St. Mary’s Anglican Church, St. James’ Anglican Church, St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church and Wyman Memorial United Church are present and we enjoy a memorable service.

DEAR FAITHFUL;
If life happens to deliver a situation to you that you can not handle, do Not attempt to resolve it yourself !! Kindly put it in the SFGTD (something for God to do) box. I will get to it in MY TIME. All situations will be resolved, but in My time, not yours.
Once the matter is placed into the box, do not hold onto it by worrying about it. Instead, focus on all the wonderful things that are present in your life now.
This is God. Today I will be handling All of your problems for you. I do Not need your help. So, have a nice day.
I love you.

Parish Supper Highlights.
For those who missed the opportunity to enjoy the great food and fellowship at the 2004 Parish Supper, magnificently catered with the generosity of the St. James’ Church Women, and St. Mary’s Sewing Circle who provided the dessert. It was good to see so many enjoying the evening and to welcome back our Rector, John, and Karen from their vacation.
A highlight of the evening was a slide presentation put on by the Church Wardens of our parish, celebrating the many recent events, both spiritual and social. Such events as the Childrens’ Christmas Pageant; St. Mary’s Spaghetti Supper; the St. James Pen Pal lunch; Strawberry Social; Lobster Dinner; Nova Scotia Fiddlers’ Ceilidh; the Rector’s BBQ, and much more. Great occasions which brought in so many friends from within and beyond the parish to share in our celebrations.
We are, indeed, so fortunate to be able to enjoy so many activities, which are a part of our life in this vibrant parish. Perhaps we take all this a little for granted, not just these activities, but also the spiritual support in our hour of need, at weddings and funerals, and times of sickness. After all, the Church will always be there. Or will it?
Here are a few facts:
· We have budgeted for a deficit in 2004 of $8,000, the third year in the red.
· It costs $230,000 to run our parish for one year.
· The largest income source is ‘Givings’ i.e. that received from the Sunday collections and other donations (reminder: they give a tax deduction.
· ‘Givings’ are budgeted at $140,000 and, after 9 months we have only received 58%.
· There are only 157 individuals or families as regular ‘givers’ with an average sum of $724 in 2003. For this we thank you so much.
A huge thank you to all those regular ‘givers’ who keep our heads above water, including those who tithe (10%). We know that everyone wants to help. Some can give a lot and do. Others can’t give as much but give what they can, or do other things to help. We appeal to all members of our parish to review their contributions. Should you wish to add your name to those who are part of the envelope scheme, please call the Parish Office on 458-5897 for a box of envelopes.
Thank you.
The Church Wardens of St. Mary’s and St. James.
