THE VAUDREUIL PARISH PULSE

September 29 th , 2004 (2004-9)

Dear Friends:

Thanksgiving is a beautiful moment in the year. During the year we often focus on things that are going wrong. The news and our attention go this way, because we are responsible and want to get things right. Thanksgiving is realizing that the world is in fact beautiful and full of God's love.

Services are back on the fall schedule, and the energy level seems high.

We have a nursery at St James! Miranda Gannon has volunteered to make it work. The nursery room has been repainted, and we are ready to take care of infants so that their parents may be at church. (Other volunteers to help Miranda are also needed, please call me 458–5372 or the church office 458-5897).

Plans are well underway for the Parish Supper on the 29 th of October in the evening. This should be a great evening with great food and company and even a presentation. (We are looking for pictures of the parish-in-action as part of this presentation.) Sherry at 6:30 pm , supper at 7:00 pm. Reserve your ticket at the church office.

An Alpha program is underway at Evergreen. This is an effective outreach program that has swept the western world. Their website is listed by the editors. Many in the parish took the Alpha Course a few years ago. We pray for Evergreen in this adventure and their whole outreach program.

Last Sunday at St Mary's I was looking for my sermon as Wilf Hall was reading the Gospel (from my sermon notes!) I didn't find it. At the end of delivering my sermon without the notes, Wilf discovered that he had them, and handed them back to me. For some strange reason the congregation seemed to enjoy the sermon without the notes. What does that tell me?

As always, please call me (450-458-5372) for anything, even just to chat. I will anoint the sick, hear confessions, bless your new home (or your old one), bring communion to the shut-in, visit, talk about the faith, or whatever new thing God asks me to do.

God be with you.

John +

"TO BE THANKFUL" May God Bless

If you own a Bible, you are abundantly blessed about 1/3 of the world does not have access to one.
If you wake up each morning with more health than illness, you are blessed to rise and shine, to live and to serve in a new day.
If you have anyone on the planet, just one person that loves you and listens to you--count this a huge blessing.
If you can freely attend a church meeting without fear, then you are more blessed than over 1/3 of the world.
If you pray today or any day, you are blessed because you believe in God's willingness to hear your prayer.

GRACIOUS GARDEN HOSPTALITY !

Fr. John and Karen Bradley were hosts to more than 100 guests at their lunch time BBQ on the Rectory Grounds on Sunday August 29th. The weather was perfect, the view memorable, and John and Karen's 4 choices of BBQ'ed sausage cooked to a "T" were to die for. While Fr. John's home-made wine seemed plentiful at the outset, it was so pleasing to the palate; he and Karen had to resort to a back up supply of wine obtained from the QLC. The latter was not likely up to the standard of the new wine at the Biblical Wedding, but no one seemed to notice.

John and Karen's planning was perfect. No one can recall there being leftover lemon cake or sausage, and salads provided by their guests were consumed in their entirety. What a tribute to their gracious hospitality!

Consignment Sale a Huge Success Again!

Convener Linda Cobbett and her “Army of Volunteers” have done it again. Total sales from over 1,200 items consigned by 110 consignors plus innumerable items in the Small Items Department and vast quantities of doughnuts and coffee grossed just over $18,000. After expenses and adjustments, more than $4,000 was raised on September 18th to help cover general expenses at St. James' and St. Mary's Churches.

Founded 27 years ago by Jack and Betty Piper, the Consignment Sale has proven not only to be a perennial financial success, but to be a thoroughly enjoyable Community Event. Grateful thanks are extended to all who took part in making is so!
