DAY CAMP 2007:

Camp was a huge success. On the average we had 52 children per day. Our team was organised, energetic, and ready for the lively campers. The three youth leaders from Crosstalk Ministries were dynamic. Our theme was Luke Street where each day's presentation involved a story about Jesus visiting particular homes from the Gospel of Luke. We sang, danced, prayed, and played our way through those doors. All of this would not have been possible if we didn't get the support from you, the Parish. Thank you to Isobel Wright and the team of Snack Time Ladies. Our pleas for supervision at lunchtime were answered by many. The team was very grateful for the break. Thank you for supplies donated and brought to the church.

A large thank you Dianne and John Hooper for warmly welcoming the traveling team into their home for the week. A thank you to our caretaker Roger Seguin for being everywhere at the same time and thank you to Barbara Dodds for handling the mounds of paperwork and phone calls. It was a hot week but the Hudson Fire Department came to our rescue by sending in a water truck and hosing down the campers on the front lawn. At the end of each day the team was invited back to the Rectory for a meeting. Thank you Karen for all of those delicious refreshments. Thank you everyone who helped make this Day Camp an informative and worthwhile endeavour.

LAY ASSISTANTS NEEDED

St. James’ is seeking parishioners who feel called to fill this role in our worship services. The Lay Assistant leads the Psalm, reads the Gospel, prepares and leads the Prayers of the People and assists with the administration of the sacrament. At present there are only two members of our congregation sharing the duty of Lay Assistant and it would be ideal to have at least four. Preparation to become a Lay Assistant only requires a short training session with the Rector. If you are interested in learning more, please contact John at 450-458-5372 or the Parish Office at 450-458-5897.

YOUTH NEWS!

I hope that everyone has their calendars marked for the big Christian youth concert – to be held September 22nd, on the grounds of St.James (in the event of rain it will be in the hall building). Tickets are on sale and can be bought at the Community Centre in Hudson. Reservations can be held by emailing kellybabbagemorin@gmail.com. HURRY! Limited amounts are being sold in advance. If you are not fortunate enough to get them more will possibly be sold at the door if there is no rain.

The headliner is Turn off the Stars, a Toronto based 4 piece rock band. Other artists include: Manafest, a Toronto based hip-hop artist and Trenton Mckean a folk singer from Utah. This assorted line-up will be sure to bring a diverse crowd and much musical talent to our parish community. Tell your friends, and family! It will definitely be a memorable experience for all!

P.S.- I am still seeking people to volunteer for the concession stand, stage set up, and traffic control. If you are interested please email or call me (613-674-1403).

Yours in Christ, Kelly Babbage-Morin,
Youth Co-ordinator

MOM’S AND TOTS GROUP By Georgia Jared

Last September we opened our doors to Mom’s and Tots in our community to come and enjoy a morning of playing, coffee and networking at St Mary’s hall. The first morning we had six tots and we haven’t looked back since. We operated right until the end of May having received many Moms and kids. It filled a very important role in our community and church. All felt incredibly welcome and were very grateful for the happy times they had at our church hall. Here is an excerpt from a note that I received;

"I felt so welcomed from the first day we walked into St. Mary’s since moving….so far from family and friends and having a newborn baby. I wasn’t sure how I would connect with other people. I met two of my dear friends through this group! I am so grateful for that! This is a wonderful group for all mums to connect and share the joys and trials of motherhood."

Our opening day of the new year will be:

Tuesday, September 11 from 9:30-11 am at the Parish Hall, 273 Main Road.
All are welcome. There are no fees or registration. Just come by and enjoy the fun. (children from 0 to 5). Please, pass the word to other mothers that may not have heard about our program. For more information call Al or Georgia Jared at 450-458-5471. See you in September.

LITURGY TASK FORCE:

Following feedback from the Parish Visioning Day, the St. James’ Corporation would like to set up a small consultative Liturgy Task Force to explore ways of making our worship services relevant to all age groups while maintaining our traditions. Now that the Children’s Church will be happening every Sunday we are looking especially to create an innovative alternative to the Family Service and also maybe look at services beyond the regular Sunday time slot which would be of particular relevance to Youth. If you are interested in serving on this task force, please contact Alison Bentley at 450-458-8076 as soon as possible.

ORGANIST / CHOIR DIRECTOR: James Armstrong.

Now that August is over, we are back to the regular Sunday service schedules, starting on Labour Day Sunday 2nd September. We will be welcoming back the Choir at St. James on that day, but they may not be in full voice until the following Sunday 9th September when, as reported in the August edition of Pulse, James Armstrong takes over as Organist and Choir Director for the Parish.

It is very much hoped that the congregations of both churches will be out in full force and enthusiastic voice on the 9th to show support for James on his first day leading the musical content of the worship in our Parish. James has some great plans for us, and has the gentle but resolute personality to see that they happen.

At this time it would be remiss not to mention the fantastic contribution of Glenna Vipond, in particular, for playing the organ at most of the Sunday services at St. James and even some at St. Mary’s for the past three months after Douglas left, and for doing so for love. Thank you

Glenna.
