YOUTH NEWS!    Kelly Babbage

Very exciting changes are coming this September. First things first though, the youth are working on decorating their teen room which is now located beside the Parish office in St. James. If you have any furniture that you would like to donate please contact me and I will let you know what we need (514-445-6386).

Starting Sunday September 7th teen meetings will be taking place for two different age groups in the new teen room. The RITE-13 group, which is ages 12-13 will be meeting from 10:45am- 11:45am. The J2A group, which is ages 14-17 will be meeting from 12pm - 1pm. These meetings will take place every Sunday until December with the exception of the “Fourth Sunday Communion”. The leaders running both groups are Kevin Ilaqua and myself. We are both looking forward to this new experience provided to the parish.
September 20th is the Anglican Diocese of Montreal's YOUTH FESTIVAL! Located in front of Christ Church Cathedral, St. Catherine Street, two stages will be set up and many Christian artists will be performing back to back from 12pm to 5pm.

Also, on the 20th, the year’s first meeting of Crossroads will take place downtown at 6pm. at St George’s, Place du Canada. If anyone is interested there are cars that will be going down for the day, leaving from St. James parking lot at 10:30am. Permission slips are needed for any teens carpooling so please let me know in advance. It should be a very exciting fun filled day!

Lastly, the first MOVIE NIGHT will be on September 28th, at 6pm. This month’s feature film is "The Breakfast Club. It is the story of five teenagers from different social groups who seemed to have nothing in common. They were labeled by others and each other as "The Jock", "The Brain", "The Criminal", "The Princess" and "The Basket-case". One Saturday morning they are thrown together in their school library for detention. At 7:00am they had nothing to say, but by 4:00pm they had laughed, cried, bared their souls and become good friends." This movie is rated PG-13 due to some strong language. A short discussion of the film will take place after the viewing and FREE POPCORN and POP will be available! Feel free to bring any other munchies for yourself and/or others. Hope to see you all there, and bring anyone you choose; this is open to all.

GM CAR COMMERCIAL   Jean Sasso

The grounds of St. James’ Church was the site for the shooting of a commercial for a new car model from GM, the Aveo.   On Wednesday, August 13 the trucks and crew set up for makeup and wardrobe in the basement of the hall and the small hall was used for both lunch and supper.  Shooting also took place at the Yacht Club and Thompson Park as well as on the bluff behind the church and rectory.  We’ve been spoiled by some very lucrative Hollywood shoots at St. James’ in 2002 and 2003 but the $1500 we were paid for the commercial is a welcome addition to our bank account.

ST. JAMES CHOIR:   Graham Campbell

"The Choir's summer recess is drawing to a close and we are looking forward to the new choral season. The first Choir Practice will be on Thursday 4th September from 7:15 to 9:15 (to prepare for the first Sunday back at St. James' on the 7th) when James Armstrong will be rehearsing his fall selections with us. Thursday evenings will now be our regular rehearsal night.

With the recent moves of several choristers to be closer to their families, we are calling for new members. Accordingly we urge you to talk to any friends who might be interested in singing with us, and ask them to call James Armstrong (Choir Director and Organist) on 450 451-6225, or Graham Campbell (Choir Pres) on 450 458-2181 for more information. We are pleased to tell you that two new sopranos will already be joining us, but we have plenty of room for new singers of all voices. We are a fun loving group but do take our music quite seriously, as you know. An ability to read music is not a prerequisite, but a good voice and enthusiasm to learn is important."
