Come One, Come All!!! The Annual Anglican Parish of Vaudreuil Family BBQ and Strawberry Social will be held on Sunday July 6th at 6 pm on the grounds of St. James Church and the Parish Rectory. Hamburgers and hot-dogs will be served along with potluck salads prepared by our guests. Afterwards you will be treated to luscious strawberries with toppings of your choice; from ice-cream, cream, sugar and chocolate. All this to be accompanied by huge bowls of the now-famous Strawberry Punches   concocted for guests of all ages.

ST. JAMES’ RESTORATION PROJECT:

Phase 1 work on the stonework has been completed. It looks great, I'm sure you will agree.

The missing louvers and window in the tower will be put back together soon.. They have been stripped, cleaned and sanded. Some louvers that were attacked by racoons have been replaced! The window frame has had some rotten wood removed and restored. Unfortunately, glass that originated from the Ottawa Glass Works in Como at the time the tower was erected in the late 1800's was cracked and had to be replaced. When these items are reinstalled, the top of the tower, including the turrets will be cleaned and painted. That will complete Phase I work on the church stonework.

The new fire alarm system has been installed, certified and tested. A big job and it went very smoothly with only one false warning being sent by the installers.

The security system is running like a Swiss watch as well. We have added another motion sensor to the Sacristy area.

The garage and Rectory painting has been planned and should get underway soon. A local contractor will do the work. All painting contractors are backed up because of the wet weather. We will endeavour to have the garage, veranda , front doors, steps and railings painted before our Strawberry Social on 6th July. So, keep your fingers crossed and hope for good painting weather.

We are planning some work in the cemetery in that large dead branches on a few trees must be removed. They are becoming a hazard and could be dangerous to people walking by.

Plans and actions have been put in place for Phase II of the restoration of the church building and windows. Application for a further grant has been submitted. Hopefully in 2009 we will be able to complete the church on both sides, the back along with stained glass window repairs.

Stay tuned for further updates.

YOUTH NEWS:

I would just like to mention everyone who helped make our hip hop culture event run smoothly: The Proctor's, The Ilaqua's, James Owen, James Armstrong, Anne Babbage and Alison Bentley. A big thank you for being so supportive in this endeavour!

The event itself, despite threats of rain (and our star break-dancer, Dyzee, getting accepted to So you Think you can Dance Canada and not joining us) was absolutely fantastic! Teens, tweens, toddlers and those light at heart, took part in spray painting our beautiful prayer wall, and skateboarding (for some this was the first time in years they had been on a skateboard). All ages were involved in the crowd while Manafest was performing and at one point a circle was formed where people took turns dancing in the middle.

There were some great moves even if the break-dancer wasn't present. Not to mention the mood for the evening was really set with a smoke machine going off periodically courtesy of Thomas Proctor who was in charge of effects.

Manafest and Melanie Greenwood, actress and model, also took time during the performance to speak about issues they have dealt with in their own lives and how God has been a huge part in shaping them to be who they are today. Truly inspirational; what an awesome time we had!

SUMMER DAY CAMP: Monday July 28th to Friday August 1st

A fun-filled week of prayers, games, songs, crafts and stories for children aged 4 to 12. $25 per child - $45 maximum per family of 3 or more. Register at the Parish Office Monday to Friday 9:00am to noon. 450-458-5897.

The children's day camp will run from July 27 to August 3rd. We will need your help to make this year’s camp a success. Last year many of our parishioners stepped up to the plate and volunteered their time and services. The children and I hope we can count on you again. It can be as easy as one lunch time during the week to come and monitor the students while they eat, or by helping with the snacks, or by being there for the first day registration. We would love to have older teens come and work as part of our team.

These items can be left at St. James with a "Day Camp" note. Please contact me at 458-0481 or the Parish office 458-5897 if you have any time or items to donate to our day camp this year. We are grateful for all and any help.

Thank you,
Wanda Smith - Day camp co-ordinator
