VAUDREUIL PARISH PULSE – JULY 2009

With our love...

It's very different.  Sundays are a special challenge. After more than 40 years of theology and ministry, what does one do?  But the heart of it is missing our parish family.  We wrote letters to both local papers, thanking everyone in the parish and community for our party.  Once again, in Pulse, thank you for a terrific party.  To quote from a letter, thank you to all the organizers; "Gay Elliott and Marcus Owen, and David Cobbett, Bernice and Wilf Hall, Glenna Vipond, Don Maguire, Frank Royle, Brian Jarvis, Terry LeBlanc, Alex Eastwood, Ingrid Edmison, Jack Sinclair, Murray and Becky Elliott, Alan Macleod and Larry Gray. Thank you Turtle Pond Gang, to Elsie Chapman taking tickets sitting in your wheelchair,  and everyone who scurried around making us wonder if we should be getting the sausages ready or something.

We were touched by the many messages, tributes and thoughtful gifts.  The splendid carving of the "flock" will have a special place in our collection near the front entrance.  The magnificent table will be part of our dining room.  The "purse" enabled our stay at a Hacienda in Mexico.  We soaked in the sun, swam in the interconnected pools, ate quite different food, and reconnected with family from all over the world at a wonderful wedding.

A big thank-you to everyone at St Mary's and St James' for seven years of wonderful community, friendships and depth that are unique.  Karen and I have fallen in love with this engaging, resourceful, talented, caring community of Hudson and beyond.  We changed all our former plans, and bought a house here.  After you've lived here, where else are you going to go?

Thank-you,  everyone.    Love, Karen and John

PARISH SEARCH COMMITTEE NEWS:

Our work continues with a major milestone achieved after which our focus has changed to applicant review and interview preparation.

On the 9th June we were privileged to have the presence of Bishop Barry Clarke and Executive Archdeacon Janet Griffith at our meeting. The Bishop informed us that he had approved the Parish Profile and the advertisement. A closing date of 31st July for the advertisement was agreed. The meeting continued with the Bishop providing counsel and advice on the next steps, in particular candidate application and interview protocol. We also discussed possible candidates within the diocese.

The Parish Profile and the advertisement were posted on two websites on June 11th ; http://www.montreal.anglican.org/index-01.shtml  and www.anglican.ca. They will also be posted on Anglicans-on-line. A hard copy of the Parish Profile can be obtained on a loan basis from the Parish office. The advert is included below after this article.

In preparation for the candidate interviews we have developed our questions to ensure the wishes of the Parish are discussed. We will conduct an interview rehearsal with a volunteer non committee parishioner playing the role of candidate. This will happen in early July.

When we are comfortable with our interview procedures we will then wait for the candidate applications to be sent to us from the Bishop’s office. All applications must go through the Bishop’s office even though we can approach likely candidates who will then have to apply to the former.

Our meetings continue, now, every two weeks and we look forward to sharing more news with you next month when we expect to commence the interview stage of our search.

Summer Day Camp ‘09 will be from July 27 to July 31.  Please mark it on your calendar.  We will need volunteers to help with snacks and lunch break supervision.  We also welcome adults and teens to join our group as leaders and assistants.

The camp is open to all children in the area, and it is an ecumenical program.  Please pass the word on to families and friends.  A wish list for supplies follows.  Thank you in advance for making this week a special and valuable experience for many children.

PARISH PASTORAL COMMITTEE INVITATION:

Sunday 12 July after 9:30 am service at St. James

Right now, at this moment in our community, we could probably count up all the sorrows and trials of life that everyone feels at some time or another. We’ve all had something to bear, after all. From great disappointments to dire health news; broken marriages; family members who are in harm’s way—the death of loved ones and irretrievable losses. Losses of all kinds. Not to mention the increasing loneliness of aging as our family and friends become fewer and fewer—this, we know, is a growing issue facing many in our community.

But by reaching out a gentle hand to someone in distress and need, to offer our compassion and experience, if it’s wanted, is something we can do. At the very least, we can bring the simple reassurance that they are not alone. We can let them know that someone in their community is watching out for them, and cares about what happens to them.

We are currently putting together a new Pastoral Committee and will be having a meeting on Sunday, July 12th. Everyone is invited. What we hope very much is that you will consider joining our pastoral team.

We hope that you will consider bringing your compassion, your abilities, and the wealth of your life experience to those who may be in need of it. To consider offering someone the comfort of your presence. And most of all, to consider letting them know that they are important and that their well-being matters.

See you at our meeting on the 12th, we hope! We will be getting together after the 9.30 a.m. service at St. James’; Sunday, July 12th.

Thank-you!

 Terry O’Shaughnessy

 Pastoral Committee
